Healthcare Focus
The Suncoast Workforce Board (SW) received a Notice of Grant Award from Workforce Florida Inc. on October 21, 2009 in the amount of $300,000 for the Employ Florida Healthcare Workforce Initiative, Round II. This was an 18-month grant from October 16, 2009 through June 30, 2011. The project was described as development of an innovative model that paired immediate recruitment, assessment, and training of healthcare professionals in the four identified healthcare subsectors: nursing, allied health, long-term care and health information technology.
Suncoast Workforce convened a Bi-County Healthcare Committee (BCHCC) in October, 2009. This committee was formed to provide direction and oversight is comprised of community and industry leaders from economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and employers.
Mission Statement
The mission of this committee is to provide strategic planning for training and employment issues related to the region’s critical healthcare industry sector, and to facilitate regional discussion and cooperation.

Empowerment Project
The Suncoast Workforce (SW) received a Notice of Grant Award on December 1, 2010 in the amount of $500,000 for the Empowerment Pilot Project. This is a 12-month grant from December 1, 2010 through November 30, 2011. With the special resources provided through the Empowerment Project, SW has the ability to augment local domestic violence agency services and resources by cross-training staff and creating a more effective referral process that increases the safety net for survivors of domestic violence (DV). SW will be working with the local domestic violence agencies Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) and Hope Family Services (HOPE) to coordinate and facilitate the goals of this project. The objective is to serve survivors who reside in Manatee and Sarasota Counties with workforce services by participating in one of three tracks: 1) direct employment 2) life skills workshop series 3) short-term occupational skills training.
Vision: A community where people have the skills and resources to solve problems without violence.
Mission: To promote opportunities to empower survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) to achieve self-sufficiency.

Domestic Violence is a crime that has an inpact on individuals, families and employers in our community. The Board of Directors of Suncoast Workforce hereby commits to support community efforts to break the cycle of violence and empower survivors to rebuild and succeed in life. The Board further commits the resources of the staff in Suncoast Workforce Career Centers to helping survivors develop self-sufficient career paths.
