April 5, 2007 FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT FOR COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION CAREERS The Suncoast Workforce Board and the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange will host its annual Construction Industry Networking Event to benefit the Construction Technology Careers (CTC) youth pre-apprenticeship program on Thursday, April 12 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at G.WIZ—The Hand-On Science Museum, 1001 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota. Nearly 340 construction employers, trades associations, educators, workforce development and training entities, home builders and elected officials are expected to attend. The CTC pre-apprenticeship program is designed to generate a skilled workforce for the commercial construction industry which faces a significant worker shortage in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The CTC two-year, comprehensive curriculum exposes high school youths to career paths in the construction trades of carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and/or masonry as well as OSHA/First Aid/CPR certification and employability training. “CTC is a nationally recognized, award-winning construction pre-apprentice program which addresses the growing need for skilled labor and supervisors in the construction trades, “ explained Jay Brady, CTC Vice Chair and Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange. The event includes a dinner buffet, raffle for a 2007 Mustang GT coupe, silent auctions, construction industry exhibits and G.WIZ tours. While the fundraising event is sold out, tickets are still available for the car raffle for $100 each. The drawing is at 8:30 p.m. on April 12 and ticket holders do not need to be present to win. For more information, contact Kristey Richardson at (941) 321-6656 or by email at KRichardson@swdb.org.
